Oil color
I own an AP2 that I bought used at 45k miles. While inspecting the car, I realized that the oil looked very clean, telling me that the seller probably just made an oil change before selling the car, which is fine.
Anyway, I drained the oil and put Amsoil 10W30. At first sight, I almost didn't see the oil on the dipstick because of its very light color. So I put a few miles on the car to get it dirty a little bit. But that did not happen....
Still today, I cannot believe how clean stays the oil into this engine. After 6k miles (as asked by the onboard computer), I changed the oil. It was a little bit darker, meaning that it did its job.
I hit VTEC a lot (first summer with my car...), bringing the beast to redline on a regular basis.
I have had many cars before, and never seen an oil staying so clean. This engine is a beautiful piece of engineering.
Don't know about the AP1 though, buy my AP2 keeps the oil (and my rear bumper ) clean at a level that I never expected....

I've noted the same so far on my 06' model. It too apparently had a fresh change before I bought it.I've put right at 1000 miles on it and the oil on the stick is still topped off and very clean looking. My only gripes are the lame radio reception(CD plays better),and the easily pitted factory windshield.Other than that ,this car is a keeper.

i have an 03 silverstone and i now just rolled over 100000 miles and my oil stays so clean when i put gas in it usually at night and check the oil i have to look at the dip stick held up to my head light to see the level and i also never burn a drop and im far from easy on the car however i do change to oil at least every 2500 miles with full synthetic and a pure one oil filter

A decent conventional oil will easily hold up for that interval.

i change at aroudn 5k-6k, amsoil. The oil is SUPER clean compared to my older car.
Also if you look up some threads, someone sent in their amsoil oil to be tested and it was still very stable and said it could have gone for many more thousands of miles without very minimal break down.

I have about 4k on this last oil change with Royal Purple and it's still looks brand new when I checked it yesterday; I usually change every 3k miles but I just bought some HKS coilovers = no money. My F20 has just over 100k now.
With my H22A the oil would turn black after a couple hundred miles. It only had around 60k miles on it and was very healthy; very little blow by according to my catch can, no oil consumption, great MPG. What really makes the oil run so clean in the F20/22?

^ I don't know but my AP1 does not show this behavior. I change the oil at the recommended intervals and it comes out as black as Samuel L. Jackson, just like every other car I've owned.
If it's on the Internet is must be true and this page says oil color is not an indication of oil life: http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm#Th...k%20Oil%20Myth but rather soot accumulation. Either your engines produce less soot than mine or the oils aren't picking it up, that's my guess.

well if the oil stays cleans, that means its not doing its job. its not cleaning or trapping harmful contaminants.
