Oil change question on 2008 ?
ok well heres the deal i got my 08 s2k in at the end of june and i was gonna do the 1st oil change at 5k miles. now heres the thing its almost winter and i have 3600 miles on the car now (yea i know i dont drive much) anyway should i change the oil now anyway before winter?? Im just worried bout taking out that break in oil too soon. but its suppose to be 5 months or 5k miles and its 5 months. and yes i know oil breaks down over time. but just wanted to get some opinons on if i should change it now or wait till 5k miles??? also i wanted to keep good maint. records. thanks

I was basically in the same boat as you (brand new '08 bought in June) except I only had 2,2xx miles on it by the time I winterized it. I asked this question a few times here and there are varying opinions on what people may tell you.
As for what I chose to do, I chose to leave it in. That's what the winterizing thread suggested if you have really low miles on the factory fill like I do. Besides, my garage is now way too cold for me to change my mind.
However, I'd be inclined to think that if I had the same mileage as you, I probably would've changed it out before putting it away for winter.

What's the factory fill (weight/viscosity)? You don't want something too thick in there for the winter.
Also, where are you located? Just want to gauge how low your temps will get.

You didn't answer my question -- what weight/viscosity is in there right now?

I would leave it in, then change it in the spring. That's my route I am taking. I have about 1600 miles until my next change.

The oil does not break down but does pick up a little moisture over time. Usually a change can wait a year and since the factory fill does contain additives that aid in break-in I would leave it until next year.
