Oil change... now or later?
Topic's been covered, but nobody ever says what they decided to do in the end.
I'm approaching the mid-high 3000 mile marker, and I'm pondering the necessity of an oil change. The car has stopped burning/sucking up oil. Anyways, a brief reply with what you decided to do and perhaps some short comments would be appreciated. Please no lectures about your theories on break-in oil. We all have our theories.
Thanks in advance

My theory: switch to 5-30 synthetic right now, and drive it like you stole it. (Yes, I'm serious.)

I waited till the recommended Honda severe service interval of 3750 miles. My oil was analyzed by Blackstone and they're comment was:
"It was a good idea taking this oil out of service when you did. Check back. Use 3000 mi oil use."
The oil I changed to was Mobil 10W-30 mineral oil with a Mobil 1 MI-104 filter. I plan on changing to Mobil 1 synthetic oil at 10,000 miles.
Note that I added no oil during this interval. My oil level stayed at the dipstick H mark. I purchased the car with 38 miles on it and ~15 miles of that was my test drive. I V-TEC'd maybe once before the 600 miles. I only moderately V-TEC'd after that. No clutch drops, but several second gear chirps on rolling starts. I made two drives with the local S2000's on ~150 miles of twisties where V-TEC was used extensively.

I switched to Redline 10W-30 when I hit 2000 miles(hard driving after 600 break in). Drained oil was very dirty and black. I changed oil again at 6000 miles and car running stronger than ever.

Do not use synthetic oil until at least 10000 miles. It will stop your break-in (yes it's still breaking in). Use 10w30 not 5w30 unless the temp is below freezing. Follow the owner's manual and DON'T USE SYNTH OIL like Mobil 1 or Red Line until 10K unless you want to dyno at 180HP.

I was trying to use the severe schedule of 3750 but due to personal schedule had to have it done at 3000. I don't think I used more than 4 oz. in the 3000 but then again I didn't drive it hard. Switched to a blend after reading some of the forum answers and plan on waiting till 9000-10000 to go full synthetic. Using Mobil 1 oil filter (104 although have a 105 and will try that next) since they are easy to get and high quality.

Tomorrow, I'm having my first oil change at 2300 miles and getting my Passport hardwired. It hasn't been going through oil very quickly, but better safe than sorry.

My dealer recommended using the severe maintenance schedule, so I changed the oil at 3750 miles. I couldn't wait to get that black junk out of my engine, it was filthy.
