I've had plenty of s2ks come in with no washer, it won't leak it will be fine. The aluminum oil pan will always seal perfectly.

However.... when tightening the bolt, any overtightening you do will act directly on the threads of the oil pan instead of crushing the washer.

If it were mine, I'd leave it and put the washer in next time around.

If you are not good with tightening drain bolts, then definitely pull it back out and use the washer.

I've been running the same washer for the last 3 oil changes, do it right, get it pointed the right way, and its not as big a deal as everyone would like you to think

never had an oil leak, maybe the only thing that hasn't leaked outa my car

As Billman mentioned, the washer makes it easier to torque the bolt properly. For that reason alone, I use a new one about every other oil change.

3 changes won't be too bad, but here's what happens when you get greedy and try to use one too many times. I took the washer on the left off a friend's Civic. It was leaking oil.

I think reuse the washer 2nd or 3rd time is ok, just put it back the way it was.

So that brings the question...

Why do you guys reuse if they are so cheap for a new one and you need to go to the dealer anyhow to get the filters?
