I guess I just have this image in my head that any microscopic sediments in the oil would have enough settle time to conglomerate. That's just what happens to some stuff in my industry with about the same consistency of oil. However I think you're right, I'm pretty sure oil is engineered to remain a homogeneous and uniform suspension at extended sitting intervals (3-6 months). So I probably worry about nothing.

Its this oil, coating these sensitive surfaces, that you want to be concerned about, not merely oil coating the inside of your block, or pan.
All that said, I agree if the oil is servicable, its fine for winter storage. If its near changing, and you were going to do it in Spring anyway, I would suggest changing it prior.
