Default oil change before the recommended date?

Hi Guys ,

First of all apologies if this question gets asked a lot , i did a search and read all of the 20 threads that popped up but didnt find an answer. here goes:

I purchased a brand new 05 S two months ago. I put 1700 miles on it since then , 0-1000 was pretty mild but i hit vtec rpm's pretty often after 1k miles. I have been checking my oil levels regularly and as of today it is at the bottom two ticks. at this rate in 600 miles there wont be any oil left in the engine.

So I took it to the dealer and they said "oh yea this car eats oil , bring it back when it is 3600 miles or so" Now i am not one to go agains the dealer wisdom but if I lost 3 ticks of oil in 1700 miles i dont think the engine will survive till 3600 without an oil change?

so my question is should I take it to some mechanic and have an oil change (what oil would you guys recommend?) or do what?

I am really french when it comes to under the hood stuff so thanks so very much in advance for your help.

Go to your local honda to get an oil change cuz they have the right oils and filter to use on the F22...

I usually change my oil every 2,500 miles just cuz I want my motor to stay healthy for as long as possible...

It doesn't hurt to change oil earlier than you have to, especially if you think you'll be running dry by then...

Don't go against your instinct

Who did you talk to anyway, salesman, Service Guy, Mechanic? Do you think that guy has an S2000 and would he do the same to his?

id say just do some more searching and formulate your own opinion. any of road rage's posts, thats where you will find some of the best oil info. i personally went with valvoline, 10/30, and a bottle of MR MOLY. and i changed my oil at 2000 miles, and every 2000 till 10k, then have been synthetic ever since. you can top your oil off with some dino oil though, youll be ok. laters.

p.s drive it harder, and on a long trip. the rings will seat. dave

Don't change the oil yet. Keep the break in oil. Just top it off with some regular dino oil.

Your oil consumption is not unreasonable for a new car that hits VTEC regularly. The dealer is correct. You will likely see higher oil consumption until you hit around 3000 miles or so.

I agree with MaxGeek: Just top it off with conventional (non-synthetic) oil.

I think you have a misconception of what the dipstick tells you. If you are at the last two "Xs" on the dipstick, that only means you have 0.4 qt to go before you "MUST" add some more. At the bottom of the stick on the "ADD" mark, you will still have at least 4 qts of oil in your crankcase. All of the "X's" represent 1 qt. Please do NOT put in 5 qts when the dispstick gets to "ADD".

ps. You change oil based on your mileage or time, whichever comes first and you go by the "schedule" that best describes your driving conditions.

I dont want to be an alarmist here but i feel like i have to add to this. My 04

has 10200 miles on it and has yet to use one drop of oil....none ..nada...zero.

There has been several threads about the ap2s and oil consumption and

virtualy everyone has said the same thing... no oil used. Im not saying you

have problem im just wondering if your reading the dip stick right. Viper mabey

you could find those threads, i havent figured out how to do that yet.

Just trying to help.

Bill
