Default Oil Change = Noah's Ark flood of oil...

I have the following:

--Fumoto valve
--Comptech CAI
--Rick's X-brace (massive piece underneath)

How do you all change your oil and not make a mess if you have the aforementioned items? I can easily access the fumoto drain valve and loosen the oil filter...but I almost always end up with a mess on the x-brace and on the ground from the oil left in the filter. I've tried making a bib with aluminum foil...but it seems so flimsy (I can't seem to get it positioned...and then when I do, it doesn't stay in place.). Can you all help me out?

I am open to any and all suggestions you may have...

Eddie.

p.s. I asked a honda tech from the dealership and he said to let the oil filter drain...but I have an X-brace in the way

Can you funnel it somehow? ... maybe cut a milk gallon jug in half to direct the flow ... I don't really know yet

i have never had a problem with the oil getting all over the place, i always let the oil drain from the oil pan then take off the oil filter with no mess. i have heard of a pretty good trick though, use a plastic shopping bag over your hand and then unscrew the filter letting it and all of the oil fall into the platic bag. but be sure to check the bag for any holes first. hope this help.

I did this too, after seeing it on here a while back.

Worth a try.........

It may be odd with the X Brace

You could cut the milk jug ( or windshield washer fluid ) and take the open area where the cap screws on - and fix a hose to the opening - and cut enough of the jug away to get it in the amount of space that you have (or don't)

I have that X brace and Comptech CAI and never have a problem. Must be something you are doing. I remove my filter from the top and immediately tilt it up.

Thanks for the input all...

I like the milk jugs idea...maybe I should get a license plate holder to express my thoughts (I milk jugs) hahhaa...

Ubetit,
Do you let it drain for awhile before unscrewing the filter? Or is your car tipped toward the passenger side to keep the oil in the filter? I manage to spill it everywhere before it is completely unthreaded...oops.

I understand where you are coming from. This same thing happens to my Civic and our Element.......I use a 4 pt lift.....so it's not angled at either side........its an idea though.
