Looks like a defect to me, this has to be a rare case. Did you ever use any cleaners of engine degreasers before?

This is the most recent thread I could find with the search. My oil filler cap broke today. A strange sight to see, one's own oil filler cap bouncing down the road in the review mirror.

Some oil sprinkled in the engine bay, nothing horrible. I found a small service garage and asked them for a rag to shove in there as a temporary fix. I bought a cap that Napa carries (part number 703-2331) that fits fine, but I have an OEM one on order anyway.

Onto the carnage photos:

Wow! Thanks for posting! I hadn't heard of this. I may just start replacing the cap every few years, just in case.

Just get an ebay alum and call it a day. It's like $10.

Aha, I was wondering what you guys were talking about until I figured Honda must have changed the design on this at some point - mine does not screw on, it just presses in.

This has me worried, when removing mine it gets so tight that I have to hit/shock it free, hope I'm not cracking it over time.

I had an oil cap break just like that 4 or 5 years ago at a meet. I had to get hardtopguy to overnight one to me: $6 part. $36 shipping.
