Default Oil cap is gone

Yesterday when I pick the car to do a 300 miles travel, I found that the oil cap was missing.

There is some oil near the place, but not too much, so there was not much time I spent driving around without the cap. (I hope so...) Thanks God, I decided to check oil just before this travel...

I can hear the cap in the engine bay, but I just cant find it. I went to al local non-Honda garage, but nothing found, we even put the car in the elevator but no way.

The sound if makes is a little rattle at low speeds.

But I had to go and I fixed the problem with a wine cork cup as shown in the pics.
I have to say this method worked perfectly with no needed to re-push in the 500 km done. (310 miles)

Is this normal? I'm planning to secure de cup with a string.

The pics:

Whooooaaaa!!

Good luck with finding it! From the sound of it, it must be somewhere...??? Isn't it somewhere near the battery??

I never had the oil cap loosen, but I tighten it pretty hard each time I open it!

P.S.: Come to think of it: if you can hear it, but can't find it, look in the space behind the front bumper grille (location in front of the radiator and at the horn).

The wine cork should work fine as long as pieces of it do not fall into the engine. You definitely want to wire it down so that it does not come off.

That is the biggest wine cork I have ever seen!

Buena suerte!

If the cap is where 99% of them wind up it is between the firewall and the bellhousing. With a good amount of work it can be retrieved without lowering the engine most of the time.

So. This happened to me this morning. Bought a MY2000 S2000 with 27k. Checked the oil level twice in the 2000 miles ive had it. To the best of my knowledge (lol who knows) it had an oil cap on it those itmes, and my oil was always on the "H" line.

Got on it a bit yesterday, noticed when I started the car up going home from work, it idled kinda loud. Hrm Interesting. Started er up in the morning, loud idle, said "Self, this is kinda strange, Ill take a look" blam no oil cap and some oil on the valve cover and etc.

That piece of cork is awesome. Write "Spoon" on it and see if you can start a new trend.
