Oil Burning

I "burn" a little over a quart in mine as well, but I have an '02 woth over 100k on the ticker. I use mobil-1 as well, but switched over to the high mileage version, plus I have a catch can installed as well. So, I burn an average of 1 qt between changes, which is typical for my scenario.

If you do switch to 10w30 I suggest trying another brand besides Mobil 1, because it tends to burn up in my car a lot.

if only the solution for the general population were really that simple.
its not accurate to assume that is the fix for all ap1 cars that have an oil consumption problem.
in fact, oil consumption is even stated in the owner's manual as an aspect of the car.

i use amsoil and have had very terrible oil consumption with amsoil.
the krank vents have since made it tolerable.

I tried the oil and my consumption went up to just a little less than 0.75 qt per 3,000 miles (Series 2000 0W30). That's by no means excessive in the S2000 either.
I switched back to the standard 5W30/10W30 and it went right back down to less than 0.25 qt per 3,000 miles. A majority of oils offered by Amsoil have the lowest volatility rates on the market (with the exception of their expensive Series 2000 0W30 and EF 5W40). Redline also offers oils that are very stable. I use Amsoil because it's less expensive and performs as well as Redline.
If you're using the standard Amsoil 5W30 or 10W30 and are still consuming a lot of oil - this suggests a possible mechanical problem - especially if you're using Krank Vents and still consuming oil.
What oil are you using and what's your actual consumption rate ("terrible" isn't a good description) - before and after KV?

Oil consumption is an issue with these cars that Honda has not recognized as a engineering flaw even though it is. The ap2 has different rungs that fix this issue though. If you read all the manuals they tell you to check the oil all the time. My Nissan did but it didn't burn a drop between 4k changes.
My oil issue started at 14k miles. The car had regular 3k oil changes prior and when I took it I gave it synthetic. Castrol or whatever was on sale. From trying each oil I found Royal Purple stayed in the car the best. It still didn't solve the issue though.
At ~30k miles I installed the krank Vents just to see if they helped. I read up on the theory and it seems sound enough to try. I burn 2/3 less oil. That means I put in about a quart between 4-5k changes. The krank vents help the rings seal better. It isn't snake oil.
I also drilled out the pvc to removed the poping noise and to make sure the krank vent had the ability to respond quickly.

I don't want to scare you but the OEM PCV valve is also a metering valve, IOW it only lets a certain amount of airflow through when fully opened.
So when the pressure in the intake manifold is at its lowest, the OEM PCV doesn't allow full air flow towards it.
Remove that restriction and you will get more vacuum in the crankcase but it may be too much

I think you and maybe one other AP1 owner have complained of relatively high oil consumption while using Amsoil. The only Amsoil oil that I've used that had a higher than "normal" consumption rate was the Series 2000 0W30. That oil has a higher volatility rating than any other Amsoil product (with Amsoil Euro Formula 5W40 a close second - I hope this is not a trend with new Amsoil offerings), and is why I don't use it.
I tried the oil and my consumption went up to just a little less than 0.75 qt per 3,000 miles (Series 2000 0W30). That's by no means excessive in the S2000 either.

my consumption was about 1 quart per 2,000 miles.
after I installed the krank vents, my consumption is about 1 quart per 5,000 miles, of which i was VERY HAPPY with.
my compression recently was 205, 190, 205, 205.
i'm a little concerned about the "190" but I haven't done a leakdown test yet.
that is on my list.
