Bumping an old thread. So breathers are for putting air into the vc and recirculating through the pcv? MY06 doesn't have a pcv. Do we?

Yeah, you have a PCV valve. It's an emissions must.

I think he's referring to what is traditionally used on H and B series motors, that works as Greg described.

AFAIK there are no oil ingestion issues with the F20C (through the manifold) which is the only reason I see to use on (NA). For FI, it's a good idea to reduce the ingestion of hot, incombustible gases that might help with detonation. I think this is a marginal issue, anyhow, given the F20C's hot nature, so even then I don't think it would yield any "results."

Breathers are one of those ricey items that is usually installed by people who don't know what they do nor care.

WOW at this thread.

The PCV/breather system was not originally for emissions. When the PCV started dumping the oil/gas vapor into the IM, is when it became for emissions.

The Breather sucks in air to the crankcase. The PCV valve expels any positive pressure to ether the IM(modern cars), the atmosphere(old cars) or a catch can. The expelled air carries oil/gas vapor which if vented to the IM will cause sludge build up on the valves and in theory, a small decrease in octane in the fuel. You will gain 1hp at most with just a basic catch can set-up, while putting a filter on the breather, really does nothing.

It's just one more filter to clean. The intake is more than capable of supplying enough air to the case.

thus "positive crankcase ventilation valve"

you should definitely buy the "breather" without it your oil can suffocate and die.
