to help out a little within the last week or so i had found out that your speed sensor picks up its signal off of third gear so if you were having trouble with third gear in the first place then the speed sensor wasnt getting tits signal like it was supposed to. now the other thing is when i got my CEL for the speed sensor (p0500) it put the car into safe mode if you want to call it that. it lowered the rev limiter, the car idled rough somewhere around 630 - 650 rpms and there was a limit on how fast you could go. granted this has nothing to do with the flashing CEL so im not saying anything about that but just a heads up about the tranny.
Good luck keep me posted

I wonder about this, too. I've always been of the impression that the speed signal must come from the final shaft that comes out of the tranny. This negates the variable speeds that each gear spins at.

The speedo on the s2k picks up on the countershaft of the trans, not the mainshaft. The exiter ring MAY be near third gear, it does not pick up on third gear. It can use anything on the countershaft that remains permanently rotating with it, like the driven teeth of the third gear.
The S2k is different than most cars, as it does not read the output shaft/driveshaft speed. It reads the countershaft, which is before the seconday reduction.
Hence, if you put an 04 trans in an AP1, it will change the road speed/rpm correlation because the secondary reduction ratio is different. So you'll need a yellow box like me

To put it another way: the rear wheels, the driveshaft, the secondary reduction, and the countershaft are always rotating together. At no time does the countershaft stop when the car is in motion.
