Default Octane Booster??

Anyone ever use this??

I'm a little skeptical. It says on the back of the 2 oz. bottle that "Super Concentrated Octane Boost increases engine efficiency and restores lost horsepower. Add to your gas tank for guaranteed results. Eliminate engine pinging while increasing octane up to 2 points per treatment. Contains MMT, the only true ingredient to guarantee octane improvement."

I always use 93 octane around these parts. Will boosting to 95 help at all? More importantly, are there any negative side effects to using this product? Thx.

Not that, but I have used the NOS variety.

I noticed no difference in the S2k, though I admittedly did not dyno prove it. I have felt and seen results on other Hondas but I think the USDM version of the F20C does just fine on 93 octane.

It doesn't boost it up to 95 octane it will be 93.2 octane. You need 10 point per 1 octane. Try using cool blue by 76 it's 100 octane.

Any other recommendations for proven octane boosters? Any brands to avoid?

Thanks,
Eric

Yes, avoid the one you showed in the picture. And read your owner's manual. MMT is specifically cited as something to avoid.

The amount of power you will gain in these cars is trivial - we saw some decent gains on heavily modified supercharged Cobras on race gas. I think the risk far outweighs the benefits.

Frequent use of race gas is something I would not recommend, either. These fuels are not formulated for the needs of street cars, and lack suffucent detergents.

This is the crucial and surprisingly factual line.

If you have lost power due to pinging (picked up by the engine knock sensor and results in the ECU retarding the ignition) then an octane booster will allow the ECU to advance timing a bit more without pinging. But if your octane is high enough (ie: you're not pinging) then this stuff will do nothing for you.

These types of treatment are useful in forced induction or very high compression applications, or just when you can't get a high enough octane fuel. Otherwise they do very little.

What if I am FI, but not pinging?

If you aren't pinging and the ECU hasn't retarded ignition, you don't need it.
