Default O2 Sensor reading slow after only 19k miles

Calling all S2K gurus,

First about my car...only K&N FIPK mod, 2007 with 19k miles.

Two days ago, the CEL came on, went to Honda, and got the code (P0139). That code is "Secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor Slow Response (Sensor 2)". They reset CEL, and today it came on again.

I have 3 main questions:

1. What causes a failure this early in life of the O2 sensor (so I can check that out too)?
2. Does driving with a "slow" sensor hurt the car, or hinder it's performance (does it talk to the ECU in regards to fuel/air?)
3. Is this covered under the 80k mile emissions warranty mentioned on S2Ki? (I cant seem to find any details, and the dealer did not offer this as a soln)

If I have to replace the O2 sensor, oh well. I really want to understand if this is merely an electrical component failing, or if something else is causing it to fail. If it is something else (like the CAT imploding), then I will want to look at that while I am under there replacing the O2.

Thanks S2K, and I am sorry if this has been covered before, I searched for this and turned up nothing.

Dealer shouldn't reset ecu without fixing it or should looking at sensor and let owner know why it threw cel, especially if its related to emission.
Clogged oxysen sensor can cause that cel, I'd would try clean them first.
Your cat core should be fine, if its melted down you may hear rough exhaust sound or may get rough idle. Only way you can check is, must need to remove a cat from vehicle.

You have an 07 and low milies, It should covered under warranty.

if you get that then it might just me a bad sensor. i had one not to long ago for the primary sensor and once i switched it with a new one it was fixed. you should try to find a used one because they are really expensive. it will not be your cat at all because you will get a CEL for the cat. i recently got a CEL for the cat and im about to take it off for a test pipe. if your cat is bad you will get rough idle.

You might also have an exhaust leak or some other condition making the car run rich. Or burning oil fouling the O2 sensor. Or just a chance that you got a bum sensor and it failed early. You might try swapping the primary and secondary sensors. See if the code follows the sensor or not.

^Are the primary and secondary sensors swappable? OEM and Denso list two different part numbers. If they are, that's smart diagnostics.

thanks everyone, and I agree smart to switch the two and see if a diff code comes up.

So anybody got a link on the emissions warranty?

Just to follow up, light went off on the 23rd, and has not come back on since. I am going to sit and wait. Thanks again for the advice.

not sure if this is your problem but there is a TSB for O2 sensors on 06 and early 07 S2000s (you can check your serial number against the 07 range listed in the TSB to see if yours is one affected)

Here's the link to the discussion--

Here's the actual TSB--
