O2 senor question
hey guys, new to the forum but have read a bunch of topics that have really helped out a lot. Now for my problem, i have a code for a bad #2 O2 sensor, along with that ive noticed that VTEC isnt kicking in till 7500 or so then kicks off then on then off. This type of problem occurs in 2nd as well, haven't tried in the other gears because i thought it might be something that would hurt the motor. The only thing i can think of is the clutch slipping--could that be the problem or is the bad O2 sensor causing a malfunction with VTEC. any opinions will surely help
thanks in advance

Check your oil level...vtec is driven by oil pressure, if your oil is low it can cause the issue you're describing.
Early stooks like yours use oil at a much faster rate than most other cars...you will need to check oil levels more frequently.

Great point negcam.....
Depends if the code is for the primary or secondary o2.
Your symtoms sound like a bad MAP sensor. Seen it plenty of times, even on my car.

thanks for the info. its actually the secondary o2 sensor. and also there is a little rattle in the front of then engine, sounds like where the main crank pulley is, its not the heat shield or anything, sounds like its behind the cover. lol im still new to my car, so im slowly finding out all the little quarks, lol thanks again

Don't forget my problem a few months ago:
bad Cat - the baffles separated (Comptech High Flow Cat) and the exhaust was stopped up - VTEC would kick in and out, and act as if you were hitting a brick wall.
with the #2 O2 sensor it'd be worth looking at.

Good points.....bang on the cat with your fist, see if it's loose inside.
Your rattle may be a bad timing chain tensioner. There's a good vid clip in UTH for you to confirm it.

thanks a bunch guys, great info. lol turns out i was low on oil, lol. someone told me because im spraying nitrous some of the oil is getting past the rings but im not smoking out of the exhaust or leaking oil around the engine. and last question, does a VTEC motor naturally burn oil or what?
thanks again
