Notch in steering?

Notch in steering?
Hello everyone,
I should have posted this 5 years ago, but better late than never. When I'm driving along and take a long curve to the left, the steering wheel seems to get stuck in a notch at about 20 degrees left of center when I slowly steer the car back on the straight. It's as if the steering gets stuck on something. Of course, I can pull just a little harder and pull it out of this notch. I only notice this during gentle steering. It is not evident during sharper curves or during turns. This has been happening since I bought the car five years ago and has not gotten worse. Does anybody have any ideas of what this could be?
I should add that I've had a couple of alignments and neither has made any difference. Also, have worn two sets of wheels/tires and neither has made a difference.
Thanks for your help!

could be a few things to look in to:
1. Torque sensor on the steering rack
2. p.s ecu
3. or the entire steering rack itself.
i dont believe a p.s ecu reset would resolve this. im leaning towards a dodgy steering rack. sounds like its binding inside.

Thanks for the response! Even though it's probably not the culprit, is a p.s. ECU reset worth trying?

yeah give it a shot you got nothing to lose
1. Using a paper clip, enter into diagnostics mode
2. Turn the steering wheel 45 degrees to the left
3. Turn the ignition switch on (II)
4. The EPS Light will be on for 4 seconds, when it goes out do step 5
5. Turn the steering wheel Straight, and release
6. The EPS Light will turn on in 4 seconds, when it goes out do step 7
7. Turn the steering wheel 45 degrees to the left
8. The EPS Light will be on for 4 seconds, when it goes out do step 9
9. Turn the steering wheel Straight, and release
now the EPS light will blink twice after you relase the wheel, within 4 seconds. then it will blink 5 times. you will also hear the ecu reset.
If the EPS light stays on, you will have to do this process again.

I was out of town for quite a while, but finally had the chance to try the EPS reset. Unfortunately, it had no effect on the notch that I'm feeling in the steering.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me as to what I should do next? Seanix suggested it may be the torque sensor or the entire steering rack. Is there a way I can diagnose these things?
As always, any advice is much appreciated. S2KI is an awesome resource that I'm very thankful to have.

Sounds like steering rack to me. Think about it, one long gear laid flat, that is moved left or right by a small round gear connected to steering shaft. If there is a dodgy gear in one place on the rack, on the long flat gear, every time you steer past that point, it would hang up a little. But if you steer quickly, the momentum pushes through that spot without feeling it.
The fact that it always hangs up in the same spot screams its the rack.
