I have not had any oil usage problem with my 03.Most of my driving is interstate at 70-80/mph with the usual Vtec hit during the on ramps.
My car has 66k miles and I use Penn Plat 5w30.MY OCI is 4k and check all fluids very week.Never need to add between changes.

Honda is not new to building engines. If you look back at the H22 from the prelude, that engine was known to burn oil as well. This engine is where the F20/F22 got alot of its proven technology. Surprise surprise. high rpm/special piston/bore coatings/VTEC. hmm...take your pick.

The Honda is just the same as the Fiat Coupe Turbo IMHO. Some burn alot some don't. My 2004 AP2 (but its an Aus model, not a 2.2l) doesn't burn a drop in 10k km's. My book says 1l per 1000km's is okay, same as my old Fiat.
I can only see a problem if the oil consumption drastically changes. If i started burning of 1l every 600 miles i would worry, as its not right for my car.

I have had experience with both AP1 and AP2 engines.... unfortunately... and at first i was SOO shocked at how much oil the AP1 would burn off... I was needing to check the level at every petrol fill up!! But now on the opposite end I have gone about 3000 miles with the AP2 engine and it hasn't burnt a thing... maybe a quarter of a diamond (on the dipstick) but that's it...
It's all about development and improving on the design... I for one prefer the AP2 engine as there is less to worry about oil wise... but I wouldn't say it's BETTER just personal preference again

i was so troubled by my s using a qt every 1500 mi, did compression test, numbers came back all over 240, thought krank vents would be the answer, but was talked out of doing it by my mechanic. he suggested an oil catch can, and just deal with it! i blame part on the former owner not adhering to the break-in driving rules.
i think that the thinking back 5 years ago was that a high performance engine burns oil. period.
