i know my soft top was replaced and im thinking it was by a used soft top. My problem is that when i drive with the windows up the top tends to kinda lift a little on the second bar. When the windows are down the top just sits on the second bar and even flpas on it but with the windows up there is some pressure that lifts the top about an inch over the bar. I can feel air coming in though where you see my finger in the picture. My question is, is this normal and should i be able to put my finger through there in the first place or is that supposed to be sealed better.

Theres a steel cable hidden in the top above your finger that is riveted to the front of the frame and attached to a spring on the rear. It keeps the top taught in this area. appears your cable is not attached.

ok i can feel the cable. yep definitely no springs. Anyone know the part number and best way to install the spring? What is wrong with upholstery shops they didnt even install the back straps for the third bar for me and now i found out about this too

passenger side has the springs but their no attached properly and i its hard to figure out right now in the dark

I've never seen a top done right by anyone. not once.

The interior needs to be gutted, to remove the corner shelf panels, to attach those straps (they attach one stud back from the front studs)

Sit in the car, you'll see a large spring. now feel under that spring, hidden out of sight behind the top frame, you'll find a smaller spring that should be taught. Is it?

yep thats how it is on passenger side but larger spring isnt attached to cable. Gonna do the back straps when i have a free day. thank you for helping me out with this

Only if you were here in southern California Billman, I would love to hand my s2k over to you for a retainer swap and oil jet bolt upgrade (assuming I have the old bolts). It really is amazing how much you know about the S.

so i took a look at it and the springs on there right now arent the right ones. They are weaker and not as tigh so there is too much slack on the cable. gonna need to buy the stock ones. Such a PITA to work around the frame on this

The big springs keep the bar tight (the bar that those straps go to)

The small ones come with the top. Is it an oem top?
