Yup, it was hot out on all of the trips I have noticed it. Sounds like it is a common thing, prolly normal. We sit so near the powertrain, that is prolly why we notice it. Seems like I notice every sound my engine, trans and dif. make. There prolly isn't much ins. either...

Good to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem(should I even call it a problem?).
Investigation for the foaming would be helpful.

that happened 2 me b4 on my 300zx. not the same car, but as far as i saw it, there is no reason 4 it & i just let it ride

If this were my car, I'd change the differential fluid to LE 1605 and see if the howl diminishes.
