Hi guys,
i have had this timing chain tensioner noise ever since i have bought the car at 70,000kms i am now on 100,000kms and the noise has gotten worse, i am taking it into a honda dealer in Australia to get it changed but they have mentioned to me that the noise will come back again if i just change the timing chain tensioner, they stated that in order to prevent the problem from recurring it is necessary to replace the timing chain tensioner, the chain guides, and the timing chain itself.
Just wondering if it is necessary to replace everything if i am sending it into honda. And if anyone has changed the timing chain, tensioner and chain guides how many hours of labour does this usually take? is it a big job?
unfortunately no Honda dealer in Melbourne has attempted this before so they cannot quote me an exact price but they estimate it to be around $400- $500 Australian dollars for labour alone which equates to around $600 U.S dollars.
any info would be great car is booked in this thursday!
thanks

thanks for the info
the only thing i am worried about is that i have left my timing chain tensioner in its current condition for 30,000kms and have done a few trackdays since then... could this weaken or place excess stress on my timing chain?
if so i would prefer to get it replaced in case it snaps, any help much appreciated
thanks

The tensioner is a 15min job (at WORST.)
at worst is you mess up and drop the pin into the engine/oil pan

At worst it pops out and pokes you in the eye, you recoil spilling a can of gasoline all over the garage before you slip and your cordoury pants cause a spark and the entire garage goes up in flames taking out you, your car, your house and your dog.
That's the WORST, but if you don't screw it up, it shouldn't take more than 15 mins.
