Default Noise when driving

SOLVED It was a loose cv axle. Thanks for the help

Hey guys, I just purchased my 2nd s2000 recently, and I just noticed a weird noise that sounds like it might be coming
from the transmission or gearbox. Its a 01 with 136k miles, never had transmission work.
This sound becomes audible ~30mph, and it louder the faster mph. The noise does not match the engine either.
Its kind of like a whine, but with more "scratchy-ness", Almost like 2 smooth metal plates are spinning against each other.

It is not coming from the rear diff, more like right under me. I looked up topics on the rear diff whine and that is not my problem.
Also looked up some gearbox bearings going out, but it not quite the same. Diff fluid is good.

Any other ideas?

i have the same problem with my MY01, it sounds like a worn brake pads scraping metal to metal in my trans, it only happens when the car is moving,

One of the 3 secondary shaft bearings (including the output shaft bearing) or pinion bearing, most likely.

Hey I am going through a similar problem with noises coming from the rear and the SMELL of transmission oil (not sure if this smell is only exclusive to transmission oil) in the cabin. How did you isolate and identified the problem being the cv axle and not the bearings? Thanks
