Default Noise Question

I have a noise coming from what sounds like the location is rear of the car in the middle of the back axle, the only way I can describe the sound is that if you imagine two gears spinning and the teeth of the gears just close enough to touch but not catch. I THINK the TSB for "Buzzing From the Engine or Transmission While Decelerating" is the culprit. However, the only time I can recreate the noise is when I'm usually in 3rd gear, sometimes 2nd, and I just press the throttle ever so lightly. I mean easily a half an inch or less pressed in. Has anyone else diagnosed this same noise?

No local S2K's for me to compare it to and find out if it is a regular noise, and I've never rode or driven in any other S2K except my own. I bought it two weeks ago and did not notice it until yesterday.

Thanks!

The rear of the car in the middle of the axles is where the differential is located. What is the year/mileage of your s2k? How often have you changed the diff fluid? Do you drive aggressively and launch the car often? It sounds like your diff may be on its way out, but you can start with changing the fluid if you haven't done so recently to see if it helps.

It's an '02 with 37,xxx miles.

I purchased the car about two weeks ago and haven't changed any of the fluids myself. It was certified last at about 11,xxx. I haven't aggressively launched the car myself as I'm still learning to drive stick and I bought it from an older man who looked as though he never took the car over 80-90.

EDIT: I'm also the fourth owner, the first owned the car for less than 5,000 miles, the second had it for about 6,000 miles and the third (the old man) for about 20,000 miles. The first two had it within one year of eachother back in '02 and '03

Hi

Have a 2006 with 31k miles that was making a similar noise sounded like a skill saw. Changed the differential fluid and reduced the noise by 80%. Still have the noise when the car is going 42 or 43 mph in 2,3,or 4 gear. A tap of the gas pedal makes the "saw" sound. Anyone have any ideas on the cause?
Thanks

Try this - https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/923...__axel+nut+diy

Did it to my car just because it's suppose to be done. My buddy had noise from the back of his car and he did it and it's much better now.
