Alright - to add to this thread - I have the same issue, but was wondering if this is a common thing for the car? Info on my car - 2002 w/ 33,000 miles. I use Castrol GTX and changed the oil about 2700 miles ago. I have an intake, exhaust, and header. Now, when I went to a mechanic, he took an engine stethescope (sp?) and said it was the belt tensioner. I asked him how much approx and w/ labor and he said about 7 hrs in labor plus parts. Is this right? Am I getting taken? Now other question I have is since the car is over 3 years old (warranty no good now), but only has 33,000 miles, would Honda cover this? (just opinions please) - Is that common, I mean I do not dog the car and rarely drive it since I have a work truck. Any input or ideas would be appreciated here or in PM.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Also, what causes this to happen? The belt tensioner and I guess anything related to that repair....any responses are appreciated!

your description is very common for the TTC (timing chain tensioner)
wouldn't that be the TCT?

Yeah the mechanic said belt tensioner or something to that degree - bottom of block is where he said he heard the ticking.....

From what I've read and been told (and that's all this comment is based on) is that this is merely a 30 minute job and the part in question is no where near the bottom of the block. I'm picking up the part Friday and having mine replaced this weekend at an event I'm attending and from what I've been told there are "no special" tools required. It's supposedly a very easy fix so I'm giving it a try and am going to have the guy check my valves at the same time. We'll see what happens and I'll post back here next week with results.

Is this cam chain tensioner the same as the timing chain tensioner? If so it's cheaper form hardtopguy.com

From what I was shown last weekend that was the part that was pointed out to me and I've since had ordered. I spoke to another local hard core mod guy and he said this job takes a matter of minutes. The dealership is either quoting a different job or royally trying to screw this guy IMO.

Sorry to bring up old topics.. But when I was a manager @ Advanced Auto Parts.. Believe it or not.. We would have people call.. stick the phone by the engine, and rev it up.. 'ya hear that, what you think that could be?'

"Sir, your engine is about to explode, shut it off NOW, come down here, and buy an engine from us"...

But, I guess that's what I get for living in Mississippi..Dumb rednecks w/ technology...
