Are you sure you aren't trying to put it in reverse? It may sound stupid but when you're trying you can't but by accident you can get it into 6th. 6th can be kind of a wierd move in comparison to all the other gears as it is. It's not hard to accidently push down on the shifter in this case. Maybe you're pushing down on the shifter when you try to shift into 6th and it's catching the reverse path.
With the car parked, just push the clutch in and do a side hand move. Thumb facing down and just touch (not grab) the NW corner of the knob and pull. See if it works. If not you may have some issues.

PS If you haven't changed the tranny fluid in a while it can't hurt to do that.

A miss-shift to third that forces fifth can bugger up the syncro coller shared by 5 / 6. You will have to work to force sixth gear engagement and shift repeatedly to clear the damage. Most clear up if you can force it.

No clutch issue... you have some rounded teeth on the syncro coller now but it should be fine if you don't do it again. Might have added some metal to the bottom of the box so even though it probably gets caught by the magnet, a lube change would not hurt.
