Maybe I'm reading his comments in THIS thread incorrectly. I followed the previous thread with all of his troubles, but the way I read his comments here was he only expected a few hp out of the cams to begin with, not after he went through all of the crap. So, if I'm reading that correctly, I wanted to know why he spent so much to gain so little.

Just for the record, I'm glad that I did the cams first, considering the hitch that we ran into. If I had already upgraded my ECU and then I installed these cams and saw results similar to our original install, I probably would've just tried to "tune out the loss" with the ECU, instead of actually investigating the root cause.

I should clarify. When I began the project, I was looking for 8-10 hp (untuned) and 15-20hp after a bit of tuning. This was before I started researching other people's results, and before I actually spoke to Toda. It wasn't until we ran into problems with my application that I really started searching out "purely factual" info. That's when I spoke with Toda and they said that their 6-9hp was made on a car with I/H/E/VAFC. That's when I really lowered my expectations. At that time, I decided that I'd be satisfied with 2-3hp from the cams and another couple from the headwork... so I was looking for about 5hp (untuned). That's exactly what I got at the peak numbers, but I was pleasantly surprised with the higher than expected mid-range numbers.

OK, that makes much more sense to me. Toda says they saw a 6-9 hp with the cams themselves when added to a car that is already able to breathe quite well. Since you didn't have all of the breathing parts installed yet, you expected much lower gains, with the understanding those parts would be added in later.

I have an aftermarket intake, header & exhaust on the car now. However, when this post was originally written, the car was completely stock other than the cams & headwork.
