The final UPDATE

Thanks everyone for chiming in. First off I have no explanation for what I did or what I was thinking, but the cams were simply reversed.
Alf_09nfr car is running like nothing happened for my own sanity i did a leak down and compression test numbers were solid. When I started this project about 3 weeks ago I labled the cams left and right, now after rainand three days working I forgot which was which. Then summarily figured it was the cams not lining up when in reality they were just not on the appropriate side. Sometimes you focus to much on the answer, and forget the question. What i believe helped save me was I did a valve adjustment with the cams reversed which I had to do again now with the cams in the right spot.

For future referance my cams are actually engraved IN and EX over cylinder 2. If you subrtact the time of the errors i pursued for days, the overall job only took 2.5 hours work time. I have take the cam caps off about 15 times and know the helms manual pattern for the 20 bolts by heart. Overall this sucked, but I still love the car and now that its running again I'm going for a drive.

Thank all for any information contributed!

Don't feel too bad about it. I do the exact same thing. I hate it when people give instructions using the "left" and "right" sides of the car, because I'm always sure I'm going to screw things up. Even though there is some discrepancy, "driver/passenger side" or "intake/exhaust side" are much more descriptive...

Well, for a car like the S2000 which is available in both RHD and LHD, "driver/passenger" doesn't work very well...
Hence the "some discrepancy." IMO it's still more descriptive than left/right. It also depends on the work you're doing, too. Some parts are specific to the driver/passenger side, whether the car is LHD or RHD.

Good to know! Congrats on getting it all running again!

Rofl. However, HOWEVER... This is not quite as bad as forgetting to replace the lost motion assemblies on a head rebuild.
