http://www.turnzero.com/technical_resource...gear_calculator

here. have a ball and input your own final drive ratios (aka ap2 or ap1 secondary reduction gears and you'll be able to calculate crusing rpm in any gear)

it looks like @ 75mph you'll be @ about
4000rpms with the ap2 gear
3800rpms with the ap1 gear

the good news is that with a redline of 8200 you'll nail 60mph in 2nd.

So the engine noise @ freeway speeds is the only thing to bug you? Not the wind noise? No rattles over bumps? My 70mm test pipe and single exhaust don't bug me @ that speed nor higher. Just turn up the radio or upgrade it since you're stock.

hello, hardtop+sound deadening, done. if you still think it's too noisy, well, as others have said, it's an s2000. that is how it is.

mod the tranny to lower the rpms in 6th (or all gears...)??? talk about a ridiculously complex solution to a simple problem.

oh or noise canceling headphones. get a good set for a hundred bucks and you can listen to music AND tune out the car for cheap. illegal and dangerous of course, but you're already doing 90-100 cruising so that doesn't seem to bother you. nor do earplugs do anything different really.

AP1
6-speed, close-ratio
Primary Gear Reduction - 1.160
1st gear - 3.133 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 45mph
2nd gear - 2.045 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 60mph
3rd gear - 1.481 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 90mph
4th gear - 1.161 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 115mph
5th gear - 0.970 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 135mph
6th gear - 0.810 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 160mph
Reverse - 2.800
Final Drive - 4.10 with Torque-Sensing Limited-Slip

AP2
6-Speed Transmissions Gear Ratios:
Primary Gear Reduction - 1.208
1st gear - 3.133
2nd gear - 2.045 --- Est speed @ 8000rpm ~ 52mph
3rd gear - 1.481
4th gear - 1.161
5th gear - 0.942
6th gear - 0.763
Reverse - 2.800
Final Drive Ratio - 4.100

going by this, which has been posted by numerous people on many forums all over the place, so assume thats correct.. changing to an ap1 secondary gear will give you ap1 1st through 4th, with longer 5th and 6th

you'd end up running about 500 rpms lower at 80.. not much of a difference imho

I think I've made a mistake here & there.

Rob-2 has an 2004 = AP2.
As mentioned, the AP2 sec reduction is 1:1,208.
Change that into AP1 = 1:1,160 and you will reduce revs but in all gears.
Put the 1:1,208 in an AP1 gearbox will increase revs!

Anyway.. with the F22 and AP2 gearbox you allready have a 5th and 6th reduced rev setup.

You're running out of options.

I think you bought the wrong car, really. Perhaps a Corvette? Personally, I don't find the sound of the engine at 4500-5000 RPM objectionable at all on the freeway. Wind and general traffic noise are pretty loud. Maybe you should try something else.

I agree... wind and road noise are much louder than my engine on the highway

I think what I'm going to do is look into the light sound deading material. See if a little bit of that on the firewall and under the car would help any.

I'll let you know how I make with the car. Thank you for all your feedback, well the positive ones.

I otherwise love it, it's one of those things that I'm just very particular about. It's the only defect the car has in my eyes. No, I don't need more power
