Didn't they change the Rev-Limiter to 8K to prevent mechanical Over Revving?
So, why is the F20C/F22C so susceptible to mechanical over-revving? Thanks in advance.
A rev limiter will not prevent a "mechanical" over-rev.

ANY and ALL fully manual transmission cars can be "mechanically" over-revved".

I think you don't understand what a mechanical over-rev is. It's been explained so many times already, I'll let someone else do it.

I don't know if this is related or not but I've been driving my EK with a B20 VTEC with stock internals and sometimes I'll shift it at 8,500-9K to purposely see if it will blow or do something. Its been a year and a half and still no problems. So, why is the F20C/F22C so susceptible to mechanical over-revving? Thanks in advance.
the 2.0L s2k can rev safely to about 10.5k rpm before you have piston to valve contact. but reving this high over time will damage the valve spring retainers. just because you've revved your b20 to 9k doesn't mean you haven't caused long term problems, metal fatigue, etc. you could have a problem that won't show up for a long time. all that didn't happen to you was piston/valve contact.

The rev limiter was lowered from 9000rpms to 8200rpms because of the engine displacement bump from 2.0L to 2.2L ... There are no problems with the MY00-03s revving at 9000rpms .. Honda didn't lower it because they had problems with it.

The ECU will prevent you from overrevving "up" into a higher RPM ... So if you're gunning it in first gear and you forget to upshift into second you can't rev beyond 8200rpms in the MY2004-2005s.

Mechanical overrevving is different. Its when you force the engine to rev faster than the redline by downshifting into a gear that makes the engine speed higher than redline. For example, you're racing and redlining each gear and redlining 3rd gear and you goto upshift into 4th but you mis-shift and accidently shift into 2nd. If you let up on the clutch your engine will now be forced to rev at an ungodly high rpm which it cannot handle ... The end result if you don't catch it in time is generally engine damage.

BTW- This type of overrevving can happen in any car (with a manual tranny, since the ECU controls shifts in most automatic trannies, it usually won't allow downshifts that would cause an overrev situation)... its not specific to the F20C/F22C. I guess in other cars without a rev limiter you can do an overrev by just running beyond redline though.

Not exactly a technical explanation there .. since my technical skills are limited, but hopefully it makes sense.

take it to the dealer...chances are there are is no engine damage....maybe as simple as bad spark plug or fuel injector or something like that
