So I stopped by my Honda dealer a few Saturdays ago to get a filter for my upcoming oil change. Good thing I happened across this thread, because they sold me the wrong one. The scary part is, I've been running the incorrect filter, because I've purchased my previous filters from the same dealer.

Once I found out they sold me the wrong one, I called up the parts department and asked if they had the correct one in. To no suprise the guy said no. I then called my buddy in the sales department that owns an S2k and told him the story. He said he'd go bitch the guys out. I ordered some filters from HandA.

Here's some pics of the correct filter vs. the PLM-A02 filter.. Huge difference in size.

This sucks, this means Honda sold me the wrong oil filter and tool wrench. I've been driving with that for 1000miles now. They better give me refund.

Anyone know if there is a trade-in policy with the new filter? I have 10 old style filters.

Don't know if there is a policy, likely it differs from dealer to dealer. Maybe you could negotiate a reduced "restocking charge" which is sually 15%, but get them down a bit if it means that much to ya.
I have a corporate account at my Honda dealer (even before I ordered the MY04) which gives me a leg-up on parts, but did not help me in the purchase of the car (MSRP).

No big deal, they're the same ones for the Accord and MDX so I can still use them.

I just picked up two new oil filters and got the story about the new ones being smaller. Realizing that Honda frequently changes the part numbers on their oil filters (same filters used on at least Civics, S2000s, and I think Accords)--here are three of the part numbers I've found over the years before I quit tracking them:
15400-POH-305
15400-PR3-004
15400-PT7-005

New part number is 15400-PLM-A02

My camera is broken, but the new filter is significantly narrower in diameter:

Old: Outer diameter: 80 mm
shoulder outside rubber seal: 68 mm
outer diameter of rubber seal: 64.5 mm
49.7 mm

New diameter: 67.5 mm
shoulder outside rubber seal: doesn't have one, apparently outside of filter fills this function
outer diameter of rubber seal: 61 mm
diameter of plate inside rubber seal: 49 mm

I'm concerned about this filter sealing properly, beside the fact that there is less filter area inside the filter (decreases as a function of r squared).

Is the consensus here that the smaller diameter filter is NOT the right part?

F1Turbo,

Did you see the pic posted above by Euclid? The one on the left is the right part, not 15400-PLM-A02. Both are new, but the big one is for our car.

Yeah, sorry, I guess I missed the second page when I sent the post. Another wasted hour today and Saturday to take the wrong parts back. I even told the guy it looked way too small, and he assured me that he was right.
