New Key - what do I need?
Hi folks,
Sorry if this is a re-post, but I couldn't find exactly what I needed.
I got my S2000 a few months back and the seller gave me two keys. One opens the doors, trunk and glove box and the other operates the ignition. Neither looks like it's got a chip.
I want to get a couple keys to operate everything. From what I can tell from other posts, I suspect I'll need a new immobilizer (I'm assuming there's not one in my car since neither of the keys is chipped), new ignition lock to match my doors and keys, but I'm hoping this isn't the case. Has anyone heard of having separate keys for the doors and ignition? It's not a valet key, because the ignition key doesn't work on the locks.
Thanks in advance!

Is this what your ignition key looks like? It may not look like it has a chip but it does.
If you were to get a new key it would obviously need to be cut and programmed to work. Some locksmiths can do this nowadays vs taking it to the dealer so its worth a shot to call around and ask.

you need new master keys. ones that only operate the locks are valet keys. any dealer can cut and program the keys for you. just tell them you want however many master keys cut and programmed. dont let them rip you either. it takes less than 20 minutes to program multiple keys.

If his door key doesn't operate his ignition switch, then it sounds like he had a bad ECU that was fixed by swapping ECU + ignition switch + key from a salvaged car.
Getting new maset keys cut based on the VIN wouldn't help. They'd just be more of the door/glove/truck only keys because the ignition switch is non-original.
