I smell brand placebo effect, unless Honda can spec out the benefits of their oil over any other quality synthetic. I also wonder if the move to 0W-20 oils are more about CAFE than engine protection.

hi so i set up an appointment with my local Honda dealership to do an oil change. I asked what kind of brand of oil and if they have full synthetic. Well like the topic stated and other members as well. They said, they only have Honda synthetic blend. I asked well the s2000 recommends full synthetic and asked if they have it. Well to me if it's a honda car and a honda dealership you would think they would have everything needed to satisfy their standard. Anyways, I have always changed my oil to 10w30 Castrol Full Synthetic. Will the Honda Synthetic Blend be ok to use for this oil change or future oil changes? Just seems weird to me that they do not carry full synthetic but instead synthetic blend. Thanks for your input.

If you want to know what's going into your car, then either buy the oil yourself (and watch them put it in) or do it yourself. That's the only way to know for sure.

Yep....Honda doesn't make a lot of stuff that they have "Branded".They don't make filters either.

For new car warranty purposes,a Honda filter would be ok.

I personally use Amsoil oil & Wix filters in everything I own.

Conoco Phillips is the current suplier of Honda Oil. I think it's as good as any out there. I'm of the opinion that all the major brands are pretty good, just change it often and don't run it low at any time. And who said Honda recommend synthetic oil in the S2000 or amy model for that matter?? I think they still just specify 10w30. Maybe I missed something in the past. You will find many dealers don't really use the "Honda" oil but use the oil supplied by their current contract with some local or regional company. Maybe Volvoline, Quaker State, Pennzoil, etc. Just my 2 pennies.

As I recall synthetic is not specifically mentioned as a recommendation, but it is mentioned as an acceptible replacement.
