Default new! honda full synthetic motor oils!

i work at a honda dealership. we recently started to phase out the factory 10w-30 non synthetic honda motor oil actually made by mobil 1 and the mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-30 motor oil. now honda makes their own full synthetic and synthetic blend motor oils. we carry 0w-20, 5w-20, 5w-30 and 10w-30.

right now i'm at about 20,800 miles. i have been using the mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-30 oil for a while. i have not had any problems with mobil 1 so far. But my oil life is still at 60% and thinking of changing to the honda full synthetic 10w-30 oil at the next oil change. figured why not stick with all genuine honda parts/ fluids if possible. maybe the honda motor oil will perform well with the engine. just like the honda mtf 2 does with the trans. i know for the most part for engines. oil is oil, just a mater of preference. just as long as oil is regularly changed and the proper weight. but why not a little extra protection?

just looking for anyone had tried this or has anymore info on it.

being my car is an 08 when i found this out i was like why couldn't have had this when i first got my car. so i could have used this for every oil change but oh well.

We only stock the "Synthetic Blend" with the black bottle w/ bronzish gold cap. Have not seen any full synthetic but American Honda is phasing in all of their new cars to require 0W-20 I believe.

we do allready have the honda full synthetic 5w-30 and 10w-30 in stock. the 0w-20 and 5w-20 might only be available in the synthetic blend. 5w-30 and 10w-30 we have full synthetic and synthetic blend. only going to run the 10w-30 full synthetic though. synthetic blend or full synthetic it is still an black bottle with a gold cap. would be cool if this oil performs just as well as amsoil or redline. or better....

A: I dont believe honda makes their own oil and i probably never will believe it.
B: Even if they did i wouldnt believe it is any better then any other oil.

Yes. Honda doesn't make oil, it sells a brand, and all its done is stopped paying for the rights to use any brand name, thus "new" Honda oil, which is basically unbranded oil from an actual oil manufacturer. Maybe Honda switched to a different supplier that costs less while they were at it.

If Honda was paying 40¢ on the dollar to resell branded Mobil oil, and can save 10¢ selling it unbranded and thinks that it will still sell oil, it will try and save that 10¢. Also, since it can now sell it as "Honda oil", why not switch from Mobil to a different supplier like Pennzoil that may only cost Honda 20¢ to sell, and pocket more money..

This..

Honda doesnt have an oil refinery to make their own oil. Just like Honda MTF and Honda ATF, Honda doesnt make that stuff, an oil company makes it per Honda's specifications, and Honda brands it as their own, because its cheaper for them now, Honda has moved to this idea with basic motor oils as well.

chances are it will still be a group 3 synthetic at best. I doubt it will get into group 4/5 territory, and if it's going to be a blend it might only be group 2/3. So it will be as good as most over the counter pseudo synthetics, as defined by that bastardized term.
