lol.. leave it to xviper to explain it all, thanks. I Finished installing my header earlier. I looked at both gaskets and decided they looked so new that i would re-use them. I checked for leaks and couldnt find anything so it seems ok. now all i need is a mid-pipe

The one between the end of the cat and the rest of the exhaust system on the stock system is a kind of metallic ring. When you remove the exhaust from the cat, that ring stays inside the opening of what comes off (that big heavy thing with the 3 cannisters on it and the 2 tips).
If you get an aftermarket cat back exhaust system, it'll come with a triangular shaped metallic gasket that looks like this:
I just bought a used exhaust - the rs*r gt2 - and i only received 2 of the gaskets...
one for the y-pipe to the resonator, and the other for the right muffler to the y-pipe, but not the big triangular one you have pictured here from the end of the cat to the resonator pipe...
do you know where i can find this gasket? i just bought a new oem metallic ring gasket
For whatever reason my car has never had that gasket!
I noticed when I installed my Hitech exhaust that it was missing. I just used high temp gasket putty. I've since changed to a single, changed back to the Hitech and even removed the cat when i did my clutch. Used the putty each time.
I guess I should get one of those gaskets for the next time I pull my exhaust.
