Default New DIY Intake/Airbox Modification Idea

Yes yet another DIY airbox mod type of thread... but this is one thing that I haven’t seen anyone mention before. If anyone has spent some time looking at their radiator plastic shroud cover thing, they may have noticed only a few small holes to allow for airflow. It seemed a bit inadequate, which led me to do the following:

Does anyone here think this might make any difference at all? I sortof did it in a moment of spontaneity. Has anyone else done this as well? My idea was doing something like a snorkel. Ideally some type of tube could be in there to direct airflow better.

That panel is part of the “funnel” to pressurize the radiator at speed, and putting holes in it will only reduce air through the radiator.

...so adding a diy snorkel (to the triangular shape of your opening) would solve two problems. It would direct the cool outside air into intake, and isolate intake air from radiator air, solving most of the radiator funnel issue.

Sounds like time to get started on another project! So where does the air come from in the stock setup? It seems like it would only suck up still air from the front of the engine bay, where it has redirected around that radiator funnel and from behind the radiator.

It gets its air from those oval holes in the radiator plate. So its pre radiator air.

My solution, borrowed from several similar threads, was adding a hose to side of airbox, that gets its air from passenger fender area. It also adds some nice induction noise, while still sounding classy.

So it augments how much air can get to airbox. Not limited to what can get through those oval holes.

Removing that panel and adding an AUT style cooling plate worked for me.
