Default need some input on ring and pinion gears

I am looking at gears for my car i have an extra rear to play around with i am just wondering what affect different ratios have and what gears would suit me for what i would expect i have read some threads and someone described the way 4:74's behaved i liked the way people described the affect but i would like to know how othere ratios behave like.

Thanks

increase the ratio and the more acceleration you gain. Of course, you can't gain something without losing something else, in the case of differential gear ratios, you'll lose top speed per gear.

4.10 (stock) = highest top speed
4.44 = more accel than stock, lower top speed per gear
4.77 = more accel than all, lowest top speed

So if you're on the highway a lot and cruise at 75mph and 4000rpm's a lot, getting 4.77's will make the engine rev higher to get the same speed. Probably like 5200rpm's or something.

You might try this: http://reverendsgarage.net/index.php?conte...l/technical.php and look for the gear calculator

get 4.77 and if they are 2 agressive change to 17 or 18 wheels and that will lower your ratio.

I have the 4.77s, and my impressions have been very opposite from most everyone else's. I like them on the street, since I have more umph in 1st and 2nd, but above that, it just causes more shifting. I think they would be great for drag racing, but I don't drag race. Where they really SUCK ASS is autocrossing. Now that I have the 4.77s, I can't even compete with the stock geared S2000s. On a course where they can use 2nd gear through the whole course, I have to switch between 2nd and 3rd 10+ times.

You must still pick the tire's aspect ratio to increase the overall wheel/tire diameter in order to affect the final drive ratio. Wheels alone do not change anything without the needed tire spec.
4.77s will change your final drive by 16.34%. To decrease this, you'll have to increase the wheel/tire diameter accordingly. Guesstimating the stock diameter at around 25", a one inch increase will give you a change of about 4% (or reducing to 12.34% with 4.77s).
When you go to 17s or 18s, most tire shops will sell you a tire that will more or less keep your original wheel/tire diameter, assuming they know what they're doing. Unless you specify what you are trying to do, it will not accomplish anything.

xviper....hmm i guess i got this impression from therevernds gear calc.....and yes unless you pic your tire size IE 50 vs 40 in a tire it wont change much. but if you choose carefully cant you change it a bit.
