Smile Need Some Help... Cars @ Shop..

Okay, today on my way back from my grandparents, me and my girlfriend were on 29. About half way to Manassas in Catlet my car slipped out of 6th. I was around 3,500-3,700rpms, about 60-65mph. Anywho, I put it back into 6th and if I would accelerate it would come right back out. I stopped @ a gas station to let it sit for a few minutes and filled it up with gas. We continued back home, only this time it was horrible. As I shifted through every gear as I accelerated there was a horrible grinding/knocking noise comming from the "shifter" area. I ended up having to drive it about 15 minutes like this to the Honda dealership where it was purchased from. Im still under warrenty, thank god. I own a 2000 AP1 that had 45,8*** when I got it, right now its @ 49,7***. Ive changed the oil religously, almost every 1,000 miles and I baby the car. I never get on it, Ive hit Vtec maybe twice since owning the car, since its my 1st "newer" car. On top of that, I have a 97LS with a TypeR swap for beating the shit out of Anyways, its there now, the guy said he would be calling me either tomorrow or Friday to let me know what it is. Any ideas on what the problem is, it would be great! Also, I purchased the car back in the middle of August, and its paid off on top of that

im starting to question your story because you said you change the oil religiously every 1,000 miles but from the mileage you stated you bought it with and what it has now you haven't even put a thousand miles on it
anyway it sounds like the synchros

Ive owned it for a little over 4,000 miles, sorry about that, the correct mileage when I purchased the vehicle was 44,8***.

I change the oil with Castrol 10w-30, syn. of course. Thats all Ive ever ran in any of cars. I dont have to change it every 1,000, but the car sits alot considering its more of a toy and the LS is the daily. I just picked it back up today for the weekend and this happened =\

Changing the engine oil every 1000 miles has nothing to do with grinding your transmission. When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? Slipping out of gear on the other hand sounds like something more serious. As the other poster said, might be synchro problems.

I think synchro is worn out. Thats the only reason for the grinding but Ive never heard about it coming out of gear. Weird.

Let us know what the mechanics tell you.

I had a similar problem with my 94 accord, 5 speed manual. of course it had about 150k on it when it happened... was driving up to the mountains, and once I started to get around 2700 rpm it would pop out of 5th gear into neutral. at 1st I was just like, wtf? and put it back into gear, it happened again and again. I had to baby it back... was gonna have it checked out later in the week, but before I could take it in, the whole thing locked up... in rush hour traffic. I couldn't get the car out of 1st gear. had to have it towed to honda... and ended up getting a used trans to throw in it.

hopefully everything works out for you and they pay for it under warranty.

I have an '00 with 28k miles. One day the trans just stopped working right and it's progressively been getting worse. It started by being notchy then I got a few grinds and now the grinds have subsided but it's a bitch to get into a couple of the gears. It feels really rough even when the car is off.

I'm swapping to an AP2 trans. I think the early transmissions have some proclivity for failure
