Default Need new Ignition Coil Pack, do I need to buy OEM?

Well threw a CEL last night that came out to be 7-3. Ran through some of the tests like swapping the coil packs and found that one of them went bad. My question is do I need to go to the Honda Dealer for an OEM Ignition coil or would an aftermarket one from Napa or Autozone be ok? The reason I ask is because manuals are very specific in saying to use ONLY NGK or Denso Spark Plugs. I know the OEM Coil Packs are made by Denso but if I go to Napa they sell some made by a company called Echlin Ignition.

Please any help would be great, need to know if I need to order online or if I can just run to the local Napa store to pick one up.

you don't "have" to use OEM, but I would trust them more than others in terms of fitment, performancem and longevity. There are even some performance upgrade coils available in the aftermarket, I think I saw them on gotuning's website IIRC. If you find some that are more affordable and you are comfortable using them then go for it. When mine eventually die out, I'll go back to OEM, they last a pretty long time and you can't complain about that.

FYI, yuou can normally pick up a set of four used for about the same price or less then one new one from the dealer. So check the FS forum.

Thanks very much for all the info everyone. General rule pretty much seems to be to not take any chances with anything and just go OEM so thats probably what I'll do.

I'll deffinately take the advice of looking for a used set but being the S is my daily driver I need to get the problem fixed ASAP so if I cant find locally or someone whom can ship to me before Thanksgiving I will have to buy new.

Thanks again everyone

Ya theres more than 1 pair goin for under 100 on the FS forums, but act fast because the fact I mentioned it will create overwhelming demand.
