Need a new engine- what to look for to make sure I get a good one?

I've gotten a few engines from TAE on ebay, so far so good. If compression and valve leakage numbers are good, it means the valves aren't burnt and the guides aren't too loose, and the cylinders aren't damaged. Which are the hardest things to fix on these engines. Everything else is just replacing parts.

hmotorsonline Ask Steve, (or whoever is still there after 15 years) if he'll split the engine and transmission to make it a little less expensive. They are by far the most reliable motor company I've ever worked with. They've honored their sensor warranty with me in the past, and I've probably spent welllll north of $15k with them over the years.
