Default Need to know if/what the differences are for 04 vs 06 on a long block

I have a 2004 ap2, and might be buying an ap2 motor from a DBW 2006. What would I need to do in order to make this work in my car? Don't know if it matters but I think I am getting Kpro.

Thanks!!

its a pain in the ass to change over to dbw...maybe just look for an 04-05 swap?

Use your existing throttle body and you'll need AEM EMS/Kpro, since your new 2006 head will not have an EGR or the ports, you'll have a never ending CEL, unless you use AEM EMS or Kpro You'll also have to use your 04 throttle body along intake manifold as the 06 manifold will not have the correct vacuum lines etc etc.

I am not clear if there are any sensor differences which will cause any problems, of course that doesn't matter since your going with Kpro. I do know the valve cover is also different, but I don't know why.

You'll have to also reuse your injectors and harness/fuel rail.

I saw a thread on this and there were a whole lot of little differences that just made it way too much trouble. You really should consider an 04-05 motor.

If you still have you 04, swap all of your stuff over, as far as I know the shortblock is the same. The head casting should be the same, but the sensors, accessories, and external stuff is different to suit the DBW stuff. I have read that the head has the same location of everything on the casting, but some drilling/tapping/modification would be needed.

the short blocks are the same, the heads are different, also the cam and crank sensors are different

the DBW heads dont have the passages for the air injection, also the intake manifold is different.

If you are getting k-pro then you will need it right off the bat or you will have to change the cam and crank sensors and valve cover. You will also need to swap the intake manifold and all the sensors, etc. You will have a CEL for air injection.

the coolant temp and air temp sensors are different as are the injectors, throttle body and map sensor. The dbw motors do not have IACV's either.

Good riddens to that last bit. Just an expensive part that handles a simple task... DBW is vastly superior overall. Just some of the changes suck honestly, mostly that the fuel system isn't a return system anymore. Outside that, the rest of the changes are all good.

But in reference to this thread, OP don't bother with an 06 long block, it's too much work.

lol, isnt that just about everything..

but yeah, the dbw motors are better all around, but for the OP, save some cash and buy and older motor.
