the o2 simulator should only be used when the Cat is replaced. being that the O2 #2 is only used for our beloved environment, it should have nothing to do with your car not Vtecing.....
So, having said that..... recheck your VAFC 2 wiring and more importantly the settings..... if the hi cam setting was lowered to say 5500 RPM you generally will feel that the transition from low to hi cams is less noticeable.... to ensure that you are truly not day dreaming ... there is an option in the vafc that tells you what cam you are running......
other than that, check your vtec solenoid for disconnected worse ect..... if you have high mileage, check the screen located in the solenoid, it might be full of scum....
if you are certain all the above are working then maybe someone stole you hi cams....
