Need help re-installing tie rod ends?
I had to disconnect the hub end of the tie rods from my front hubs to install longer wheel studs. Is there a trick to getting the tie ends to "re-seat?" When you push the threaded end back in the hole on the steering arm of the hub, about 4 threads stick out the other side. I tried getting the coned portion to seat by turning the nut. It starts to tighten and then the whole mechanism spins in the ball joint instead of seating properly. ... tried tapping with a rubber mallet..no luck... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you got some grease or other foreign matter in there. It's a tapered mated pair and the tighter you twist the nut on, the tighter it should hold. Pop it out again and try cleaning the surfaces really well and then use a bit of sand paper to rough it up a bit and go at it again.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the threads and there was a small bur. It was stopping the nut from advancing and just turning the whole unit... redressed the threads and it went right on.
thanks
