The car will run without the pump, but you will have a CEL on.

Plug the fitting on the CAI for the air pump's fresh air inlet hose, so you don't draw unfiltered air into the engine.

I'd be a bit careful here. The extra oxygen provided by the pump makes sure that any un-burned fuel becomes burned before it hits the Catlytic Converter. Raw fuel in a hot Cat will melt it very fast.

Or course yo ucould install a "test pipe" for a few weeks and not worry.

All the best,

Jim

air pump actually is there to heat up the cat faster. this reduces cold start emissions.
it supplies oxygen to the rich exhaust to speed up the reaction in the cat.

I've been airpump free for about two weeks now. No problems outside that pesky CEL that I have to stare at.

thats exatly what it does. it has no effect on the performance of your car, mine was non-functional for about 6 months waiting to be replaced(like $600 bucks) and it's fine.

Yes, having no airpump will not damage the car. It will increase the emissions during startup. It does not affect performance either way.
