turbo, do you have access to a service manual? The cams should line up perfectly. The service manual documents it better than I can. When the cams are in time try swapping the CKP sensor on the chain case. If the cams are in right, you have an electrical problem.

We are doing everything off the service manual. Let me explain, we had the head service guy at a local Honda dealership come to the shop and help us. The cams are lined up as best as they can. We've tried moving them one notch in either direction. The car wouldn't even fire up with it that way. We've done a resistance/ohms check on the sensors and they are all within spec. We've even swapped sensors from Defender's car onto mine and I still get the CEL. At this point, everyone is stumped and I might just bite the bullet and put everything back to stock.

That is my last resort. It is a major PITA to have to take everything apart and replace the head.

Are you sure that there isn't any play in the cam bearings or mounts?

Another WAG, but couldn't a bad valve cover gasket cause the sensors to be misaligned?

Definetly not, 5 different people checked it at this point and you couldn't move them without a sledge hammer.

By valve cover gasket do you mean the rubber seal? There aren't any rips or tears in it that we could find.

I am referring to the rubber seals. They are "supposed" to be replaced every time the valve cover is removed, but you don't really have to. However, if the valve cover has been removed many times over several years, it might have squished flat.

Not the ones that connect to the spark plug holes right? I was thinking that the other day but the Honda Tech said he doubted that would be a problem.

I think you should at least replace the 1 main gasket, and all 4 spark plug gaskets, since all 5 together determine the height of the valve cover. The 5 gaskets that go around the bolts that hold the valve cover down don't need to be replaced unless they are leaking. Just to be sure, are you following the tightening order for the 5 bolts and torquing them to spec incrementally?
