Need help determining proper torque value
As most of you may or may not know there are 3, 10mm bolts that hold the main sprocket and the cam idler gear together. Here is the problem, does anyone know how many ft/lbs they are supposed to be torqued to. There is no indication ( i think) in the Service manuals.

the service manual calls it the "idle gear/idler gear collar assmbly" and they have no torque values for it. Apparently this is taken out as once piece and probably not meant to be separated. but then http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...SHAFT-CAM+CHAIN parts 19, 7, 11, 10.
so I dunno
The bolt that goes through the center of the gear is torqued to 36 ft/lbs though. But that doesn't help you any.

Failing to find a published figure for this specific application, I'd go with what is commonly used for a 10mm bolt. If it's a short bolt, then about 20 ft/lbs. A longer one - up to about 25 and a really long one up to about 30. This is assuming a steel bolt. You'd have to compensate if it were made of a different material.

This was the exact diagram I used to find the correct names for these parts. As u can see I am not sure. I am hoping more experienced Honda Techs/Peeps that have extensive experience would chime in and provide their input.

Some of the bolts on the valve cover are also 10mm bolts, and I'm pretty sure they are specified to ~8 ft/lbs also, so that might be correct. As xviper said, it probably depends on the material and length.

The valve cover bolt is not as exposed to as much stress as the once I am refering to. the bolt were very loose at 8ft/lbs....I think the 20ft/lbs number is more reasonable...

are you being picky and telling me the value at the same time ( meaning the bolts should be torqued to 10lbfft) and if so what page are you looking at?.... if you were just pointing out the units then thanks anyway.....
