I never said that I had my foot on the gas pedal when starting it. This is after starting the vehicle.

Yes, but only for 3-5 minutes. This is usually the amount of time it takes for me to brush all the snow off and scrape the windows. If there is no snow or ice to take off, then I let it idle in neutral with the clutch out just long enough for the tranny to "un-stiffen". This might be 2-3 minutes. Then I drive without revving more than about 3500 rpm till I get some movement on the temp gauge.

When first starting the car, after the car has cooled off, the ECU relies on its last readings (if started right away). And those readings were from the engine at normal operating temperatures.
So to correct this try.................
Turn the ignition on and wait 5 seconds or so before hitting the start button. This will allow the sensors to collect new information and send it back to the ECU. If all sensors are working correctly, this should improve the way the car starts.
