if you did over rev it, the computer recorder everything, they just pull it up on the computer to see what max rpm was.

There is a lot of history on this board about engine failures - search for #4 cylinder problems and as suggested earlier, the spark plug TSB.

From your description, it sounds like you have a legitimate case for warrantee repair. As others have stated, if you were accelerating in gear, there should be no way that you could over-rev the engine.

In this forum I've read about numerous failed engine claims that were initially denied, but later covered. The strategy that works best is to be consistent and level-headed about this. Contact Honda of America if the dealer does not satisfy you.

BTW, the consensus in this forum is that the ECU does not keep a running history of engine state, but can only record a "snapshot" of engine state in the event of an error code. This "snapshot" does include engine RPM, but because the data is not written at the exact moment of failure, the ECU often does not record the maximum RPM value.

In the event you do blow your motor from over-revving can you just pull one of your battery cables and erase the OBD?

i doubt the engine was blown from over revving, if you were already in gear, the Rev limiter will cut off fuel as soon as u reach anywhere beyond 9400RPM

I'm not sure, although I would think that if resetting the ECU will clear the code, then it probably also erases the snapshot that was captured at the time the ECU detected the error that threw the code.

Regardless, I hope I never have to find out for sure...
