The oil light is fairly dumb. It comes on if you have low pressure.

My first thought was a damaged oil pump. Would explain the noise and the low pressure.

You'll see when you pull the sump.

ok, i pulled the oil pan and here is what i saw. In the oil, bits of metal flake. There was a big piece of it. It is like foil except brittle. Its copper colored on one side and chrome colored on the other side. I pulled the rod caps and nothing was wrong with the rod bearings. Could it be the main?

That sounds like bearing material to me.
