The corrosion I was referring to is the splices. Unless you use solder and heat shrink, the connections would not last. I wasn't in the mood to solder, so I just cheesed out, and went the crimp route.

Whatever. I'm pretty tuned out to the question of, "how to improve my S," these days...

My simulator worked perfectly for the first 5 days (about 25 driving cycles and 300 miles), then my CEL came on. I figured it was just a fluke, so I reset the ECU. I drove it to the store and back (2 miles) with no CEL, but on the way to work (5 miles) the next morning the CEL came back on. I checked the wiring, and can see that the 3 wires are still properly connected and the LED is blinking. I also pulled the diagnostic code, and it is P0420 ("Catalytic System Efficiency Below Threshold").

Anyone else experienced this?

Call Justin. I've not had a problem, although I've also not logged a lot of miles. But let Justin know what's happening and see what he says about it. Then let us know what you've learned...

I just posted this in another thread, but it applies here too.

I called Casper's Electronics this morning. Justin was not available, and the person I spoke with had disturbing news. He said that no O2 simulator will prevent a CEL. He said that the ECU will periodically produce a known lean condition, to test the O2 sensors. Since the simulator won't change its output, the ECU will always throw a code eventually. This makes me wonder why they even make the damn thing if it "can't work". He basically said that the simulator just extends the time it takes for the CEL to come on, if the conditions are just right.

He suggested resetting the CEL using an OBD-II scan tool, instead of resetting the ECU. He said that the ECU will always do the O2 sensor test soon after a reset, but will wait longer if the code is cleared via OBD-II.

Someone should run this by Justin, as (i) it sounds goofy and (ii) it would surprise me that Justin would have designed a part that can't (by construction) work. I don't know Justin well, but, from our phone calls and how he's dealt with me, he sounds like he's got integrity and this doesn't sound like how he does business. I'd be interested in whatever you find out. Sorry you're having problems, Gerby.

I emailed Justin last week about this issue. He hasn't responded. I just pulled my ECU backup fuse.

ttt, just wondering what the outcome was. I am in the process of making test pipes for S2000 owners and know that the CEL will bother most of the buyers. If this product works it would be nice to include in my Test Pipe package. Thanks!

gernby, After all those PMs and updates I gave you on the Lake Performance Sim, you still went with Casper?

Justin is really nice and took mine back but the Lake Perfomance is cheaper and I have over 1000 miles and too many cycles to count and no CEL.
