Default Mystery connector with paper clip inside

Hey all,

I am working behind someone else in my new to me 2005 ap2. I am down under the dash wiring up a new dashcam and i found an existing power supply for a radar detector.

i also noticed a yellow connector with a blue and black wire taped up with a paper clip jumping the two sides. this connector does not reach any empty ports that i can find. does anyone know what this is for? my service manual is failing me so far.

thank you

connector off to the right with paper clip.

Solved.

This is the clutch pedal position safety/position switch.

Its common to bypass that switch for any combination of below reasons:

The plastic pusher fell apart due to age, so car wouldn't start. Gotta remove pedal to replace it. Bypass allows car to start.

Using an aftermarket pressure plate causes increased stress on crank thrust bearing, which are known to sometimes be an issue. Bypass prevents engine issues.

Stock pressure plate, but paranoia about that thrust bearing, bypass just in case. Especially for cold start, this bearing takes a beating. High load but initially no lube.

Other countries don't even have this switch. USA nanny. Bypass just because not gonna let the man control me.

It might not be a bad idea to use a bypass, to allow not pressing clutch, especially for cold (dry) starts. But we can do better than a paper clip and compromised safety.

bypass using brake pedal

Back in the days when I was taught to drive (and everyone had manual transmissions) I was taught to always press in the clutch so that the starter motor didn't have to spin the transmission and its relatively thick oil. Especially when it was cold out.

Are S2K starters assumed to be tough enough that this isn't a consideration any more ?

Pushing in the clutch on an s2000 shoves the crankshaft toward the rear of the engine. Bypass allows a start with the crank in a neutral position, better to avoid wear to the thrust washers. My 05 is not driven daily, so more risk from a dry start. I have an override button installed that allows the engine to start without depressing the clutch pedal. Good for my peace of mind.

First motion shaft take little effort to turn in the gearbox on start up.
Pressing pedal on start will over time kill this engine = terminal.

So how is this connector jumpered? Looks like 3 wires. What pins are connected? Anyone know what connector is used?

The connector only has two pins. The connector in question is on the right side of the picture with a light blue and black wire running to it. so both pins are connected with the paper clip.

Thanks. I'm assuming this is a standard connector. Know what it is? Making a little harness, perhaps with a toggle switch should be easy if I knew the connector.
