Mysterious rear rumble

grab the prop shaft and push/pull it the length of the vehicle. If you hear a hiss the boots are shot and the joints probably are too. Lock the park brake and put it in gear. Twist the prob shaft and see if the joint has rotational play. It should have zero. I'm on my 3rd btw

^ just got back from an import shop, an older guy that races s2000 told me that it was at drive shaft speed. It makes a hiss sound but no rotational play.

What were some of your symptoms on your last two drive shafts?

My boot slung grease all over the transmission tunnel so I bought a used one and swapped it. If you know what a loose universal or cv shaft joint feel like, you can unmount it and feel each end. It just feels loose where it shouldn't.

I didn't really have any symptoms because I caught mine early. You may not be feeling a bad prop shaft, but it's a possibility. If the joints wear too much the shaft can spin out of parallel with the vehicle slightly and cause a huge vibration.
